Erin Powers-Stockl is passionate about teaching. She has taught all levels of education in the private and public sectors. In the past 20 years, she has taught 1:1, small group, and classes with a concentration in phonics, phonological awareness, morphology, vocabulary acquisition, test taking strategies, reading comprehension, fluency, and writing. She has administered and interpreted standardized and criterion referenced academic evaluations and utilized this data to create individualized curriculum.

Erin holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from Boston University; a Master’s degree in Special Education from Simmons College; and an Associate level certification in Orton-Gillingham. She also holds a teaching endorsement in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) and has worked with many ESL students over her career. At Marvelwood, she will be working as a 1:1 Orton-Gillingham Language practitioner.

Originally from Massachusetts, Erin now resides with her family in the Hudson Valley. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, swimming, kayaking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Alex Sanchez '19

Alexander graduated from Marvelwood with the class of 2019. During his time at Marvelwood, Alex participated in numerous theatre performances, co-captained the lacrosse team, served as a Star Dorm Prefect, Class Representative, and a member of the Judicial Counsel. Alex is a graduate of Gettysburg College with a degree in History and a minor in French. At Gettysburg, he played ultimate frisbee, performed in 12 shows, and undertook a handful of other endeavors throughout the years. He plans to pursue a master's degree in American History through the Gettysburg College joint program with the Gilder-Lehrman Institute.

At Marvelwood, Alex will join the History Department and teach courses in World and U.S. History. He will assist the Theatre Program in the fall and retakes the lacrosse field as an assistant coach in the spring. Alex also works on the Marvelwood campus over the summer at Camp Dunnabeck, where he has been a counselor, dorm head, and activity leader for 3 years. He was also partially trained in the Orton-Gillingham 1:1 approach and served as a tutor for a summer.

In his free time, Alex loves playing sports, singing, working out, and getting his frisbee unstuck from the gym ceiling.

Glenn Sanchez is the History Chair and the Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Each year his top students participate in the Yale Model United Nations conference in New Haven. Since his arrival to Marvelwood in 1990 he has held many positions including Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations, Academic Dean, Athletic Director, Admissions Associate, Summer School Director, and Lacrosse Camp Director. He is currently a Selectman in the Town of Kent.

Glenn met his wife Sarah Marshall on Marvelwood's Cornwall campus, and she is now the Director of the Kent Memorial Library. Their two children, Victoria '18 and Alex ‘19, are alumni of Marvelwood. Alex teaches history at Marvelwood and Victoria teaches French at New Hampton School in New Hampshire.

Mr. Sceusa graduated from Marvelwood in 2007. He studied Computer Graphics Technology in college, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science. Before returning to Marvelwood, Mr. Sceusa worked for 10 years developing STEAM and technology related classes for after school programs for a small family owned company. His specialties are in 3D Animation and Game Design. Mr. Sceusa is a huge believer in the application of technology, an advocate for board games, loves Role Playing Games such as D&D and Magic the Gathering, and enjoys going to the cinema to view the next fantasy or sci-fi flick. Never declines a brownie sundae or cheesecake when offered.

Christine Sinclair holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Saybrook University. With a diverse background teaching at both private and public schools, she has gained valuable experience in classroom settings as well as after-school programs. Driven by her love for learning, Christine finds joy in sharing her knowledge and empowering others through education. She considers it a privilege to be a teacher and finds inspiration in collaborating with students to help them thrive academically and personally.

Outside of her role at Marvelwood, Christine dedicates her time to teaching movement and meditation classes for both adults and children in natural environments such as forests or bodies of water, where she incorporates activities like kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. She is an avid trail runner, paddleboarder, cross-country skier, and alpine skier. Christine resides on a land trust in Kent with her partner, Steve, their two young children, and a group of senior rescued farm animals.

Sandy joined the faculty as a part-time strategies teacher and became full-time in 2015. Sandy has 12 years experience in New Milford public school special education classrooms and five years as a Social Coach in New Milford High School. Prior to that, she did group and individual counseling as a Social Worker. Sandy holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, as well as state certification in early childhood education; “I wanted to come to Marvelwood after meeting one of the current students. He spoke honestly and earnestly of the good aspects of the school, and even the ones he sees as difficult. My experience thus far has been totally positive. The level of communication among the staff is incredible and can only lead to success for the students. The support I’ve received as a new strategies teacher is fantastic.”

As an experienced admission professional, she has traveled domestically and internationally and has made many valuable professional relationships with families, schools, and consultants. Maureen has been a presenter at numerous conferences including Independent Educational Consultants Association and Small Boarding Schools Association. She is an active member of the Western Connecticut Boarding Schools Association and currently serves as President of the organization. When not meeting families Maureen enjoys trying new recipes and entertaining with her husband Ira.

Ashley brings ten years of experience and expertise in advancement to her new role. Most recently, as the Assistant Director of Advancement at the University of Illinois’ College of Education, she worked to engage alumni and donors through to the successful conclusion of the $2.7 billion “With Illinois” campaign; secured several new student scholarships, fellowships, and estate gifts; and raised the largest gift ever made to the nationwide Freedom School initiative. Prior to her work at Illinois, she completed a Field Development internship at Autism Speaks before going on to serve as the Donor Relations Coordinator for Home Sweet Home Ministries, a non-profit that addresses housing and food insecurity. There, Ashley spearheaded the development office with multiple six-figure events and worked to create a fully active and engaged board. This multifaceted experience has honed her skills in strategic fundraising and relationship-building, making her well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to Marvelwood's mission.

As a first-generation college graduate, Ashley is deeply passionate about education. Marvelwood's commitment to personalized teaching methods and creating an environment that promotes success for all students resonates deeply with her. She believes in the power of impactful conversations, meaningful relationships, and strategic fundraising to support Marvelwood's academic and extracurricular programming, college counseling, community service and wellness initiatives, and beyond.

Outside of work, Ashley is an avid runner and marathoner who has eagerly relocated to New England with her husband, their young daughter, and their border collies! They look forward to enjoying outdoor adventures, historical experiences, and delicious NYC-style pizza!

Dylan joined the Marvelwood Community in the fall of 2022 after graduating from Kenyon College in the spring. At Kenyon, he majored in English and minored in History. Dylan grew up just down the mountain from Marvelwood in Kent, and graduated from Kent Center School and Kent School. Dylan has spent a bit of time on the Marvelwood campus as well; he completed the Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Training Course in 2021 and tutored at Camp Dunnabeck for the past two summers.

Dylan also served as a counselor for Camp Dunnabeck, and now he lives on campus in Star Dorm. Dylan is a member of the Learning Support Faculty and the English Department. In addition to tutoring students 1 on 1 with the Orton-Gillingham approach, he teaches Strategies and American Literature.

In his free time, Dylan enjoys film, reading, singing, cooking, and singing while cooking. He is an avid sports fan and player, currently serving as the assistant coach for Boys Varsity Soccer and greatly looking forward to coaching Boys JV Basketball in the winter.
